Original blue cloth, fading red spine titles. Cloth rubbed and lightly bumped, a little worn near top rear groove. In his autobiography World in Ripeness (1969: 28-32), Bates relates his working relationship with his commanding officers in the Air Ministry, one of whom, Fletcher Allen, encouraged Bates to engage his first literary agent, Laurence Pollinger, in 1944.
